Facilitation is a skill set.
The kind that enhances
everything else you do.

Facilitation is emerging as a recognized leadership capability — not a substitute for what you already do, but an addition that makes your existing work land better. These are the courses. ToP® is the credential behind them.

Why Training

The capability that used to live
in outside experts. Now it's becoming
standard leadership practice.

External facilitators who act as strategic navigators for organizations are becoming a line item in budgets — the way legal counsel or executive coaching did a generation ago. But strategic moments aren't the bulk of the work.

For the day-to-day — the one-on-ones, team meetings, cross-functional projects, planning updates — leaders need to create and sustain clarity, alignment, and commitment themselves. That's what these courses build.

Who This Is For

Two paths. Same methods.

👤

Individual practitioners

Consultants, nonprofit leaders, health educators, planners, coaches — anyone who regularly facilitates groups and wants to build the skill set properly.

  • Open enrollment — register individually
  • Small cohorts, real practice
  • Skills you'll use the following Monday
  • CE credits: CHES, AICP, ICF, PDU

Organizational teams

You don't need your staff to become professional facilitators — you need them to have the capability that makes every part of their work land better.

Under 15? Send them to a public course — cross-sector learning adds value.

15 or more? Private in-house cohort — your team, your real work.

20? Full cohort. Ideal learning conditions.

Training session

"Facilitation is the capability underneath everything else a leader does."

The Courses

What each course leaves you able to do.

Each course stands alone. Taken together, they form a complete practitioner's toolkit. The payoff isn't what you'll learn — it's what you'll be able to do afterward.

Course One · ToP®

Facilitation Methods

What you'll leave able to do

Build consensus. Develop shared awareness. Adapt when your environment shifts. Keep plans on track through the ups and downs.

The foundational skill set — the Focused Conversation Method and the Consensus Workshop Method. Every other course builds on these. Walk in wondering what facilitation actually is; walk out leading meetings that reach their aims.

⏱ 2 Days 🎓 CE Credits 🏢 In-House Available
What's covered
  • The Focused Conversation Method (ORID)
  • The Consensus Workshop Method
  • Designing and leading each method with confidence

Course Two · ToP®

Strategic Planning

What you'll leave able to do

Lead a strategic planning process — internally for your organization, or externally as a facilitator for someone else's. The full process, start to finish.

The participatory method behind plans that actually get executed — because the people who have to do the work are the ones who build it. Walk in with a planning need; walk out able to run the whole process.

⏱ 2 Days 🎓 CE Credits 🏢 In-House Available

Course Three · ToP®

Approaches to Environmental Scanning

What you'll leave able to do

Understand your organization's current reality — from both internal and external sources, in 10 different ways — before you try to plan for it.

Organizations that skip environmental scanning end up planning for the world they wish they were in, not the one they're in. This course gives you 10 participatory approaches to scanning — so the shared context is built before the plan.

⏱ 2 Days 🎓 CE Credits 🏢 In-House Available
What's covered
  • 10 participatory approaches to environmental scanning
  • Gathering reality from internal stakeholders AND external partners
  • Creating shared context that planning teams can act on

Secrets of Implementation

What you'll leave able to do

Keep plans moving through their natural life cycle of ups and downs — because implementation is where most plans die, and it's almost always solvable.

A plan nobody follows through on is just a document. This is the course on the back half of strategic work — turning strategic directions into real action, then keeping them alive through the inevitable pressure, distraction, and drift of a year's work.

⏱ 2 Days 🎓 CE Credits 🏢 In-House Available
What's covered
  • Moving from strategic directions to concrete action plans
  • Clear ownership without top-down mandates
  • Building accountability that sustains itself
  • Keeping momentum through the ups and downs of the plan's life cycle

Private & In-House

Bring the training to your team.

When you have 15 or more people who all need the same capability, a private in-house cohort is often the smarter investment. Your team learns together on your real work and leaves with shared language and methods. In-house training gets customized to your organization — your real scenarios, your actual challenges, your language.

When training is part of a bigger engagement

Training often shows up as one piece of a larger engagement. When a team needs capacity building combined with facilitation, strategic planning, or Team Dynamics work, that's the territory of Team Alignment.

Sometimes the right move is a single course. Sometimes it's a course inside a bigger engagement. Both are welcome.

For Practitioners

The path to Certified ToP® Facilitator.

ToP® Facilitation Methods and ToP® Strategic Planning are the two core courses on the path to the Certified ToP® Facilitator (CTF) credential — the professional standard for ToP® practitioners worldwide. Certification is earned through ICA — the Institute of Cultural Affairs.
